Consider for a moment...

You are entitled to recognition of your work experiences when you seek a qualification. Qualifications gained by recognition are equal to qualifications gained through study. Government and employers agree that the workplace is the best trainer for industry and business. A qualification by recognition may be your best option. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you or your team getting the recognition that you have earned?
  • Is time a critical obstacle to gaining diploma or certificate level qualification/s?
  • Are you currently or have you been a team leader, business owner, key supervisor or manager?
  • Are you wanting to boost your resume hitting power?
  • Do you need to demonstrate continual improvement and personal development?
  • Do you want an Australian nationally recognised qualification?
  • Do you want to benchmark against the Australian Qualification Framework?

Employers are increasingly demanding measurable and certified personal development outcomes from their key personnel, annually. Gaining risk management, human resource and sustainability units of competency through Aboard is a measurable outcome for continual improvement. All qualifications gained by recognition of experience through private providers are equivalent to those gained by study at public institutions. Both private and public institutions must recognise each others qualifications and results. Aboard is a Skilling Solutions Queensland preferred supplier of recognition services.

Different training organisations have different methods for providing recognition of experience. Aboard is focused on being progressive and aware of your needs. ‘Fair to the customer and true to the standard’ is a core policy. You can ask an Aboard assessor for a customised approach for you, your enterprise or organisation. Aboard Training Australia has assessors available.

How long does it take?

The Aboard assessment visit duration varies, and generally takes 5 - 6 hours. Within a week the assessor will have considered the information that has been gathered. An initial decision is made and you are given an opportunity to discuss this. If the assessor needs more information to 'prove' your competence this can be added by you prior to the final decision, or another visit if needed. Allow 5 - 10 working days after the final decision is made for your parchment to be processed and mailed.

We guarantee quality service

We keep it simple and straight forward. However, if at any stage during the process you are not happy with the service or results provided you may contact us and you will be sent appropriate complaint or appeal forms. Full details of our refunds policy, customer complaints procedures, appeals to assessment procedures, privacy and other quality information is available. Rest assured, Aboard Training Australia is audited regularly by the state department of education against the national quality guidelines for registered training organisations.

How does it work?

Recognition should be simple. A free, no obligation, pre enrollment discussion of your experience gives you and your assessor a very good idea of your current skills and abilities, and reduces your risks of not attaining the desired outcome. Your assessor will be looking for ways to 'prove' that your abilities meet the qualification requirements. This may be by any of the following ways during the face to face assessment interview, either at work or a simulated work place:

  • Discussion of "what if" scenarios.
  • Questions related to your work.
  • Samples or demonstrations of your work
  • Your resume and experiences will be discussed to determine your on the job skills.
  • You may have a colleague, manager or staff that can vouch for your skill and experience.
  • Your previous formal or informal studies and learning may contribute.
  • You may have other ways and ideas that can help the assessor make a decision.

What if I have gaps?

If you have only partially fulfilled the requirements of a qualification you will receive a statement of attainment, itemising the units that you have successfully attained, and those units in which you are not competent. The assessor will detail any requisitions remaining, and how to best fill them. Aboard does not offer training courses. Ways that you can fill gaps in knowledge include formal training, private training and coaching, self learning. Gaps in experience are best filled within the workplace. Remember, you can add information anytime before the assessor makes a final decision.

You may wish to ask the assessor for some time to complete any gap requirements. We recommend that you try to complete any requirements within 3 months; if you need more time ask about an extension for special circumstances.

I want a particular unit?

At the pre enrollment interview you can discuss your unit selection with your assessor. Your assessor is well experienced in the art of interpreting unit requirements into plain language and job roles. The unit selection will need to follow the rules for the qualification. These can be difficult to interpret without a solid assessing background. Again, your Aboard assessor will discuss your best options with you prior to your enrollment.
